Another week has passed and it’s time to shake things up a bit in our weekly Throwback Top10 Countdown! After placing your votes all week, we have an all new #1 song and a number of 90’s classic hits making their first appearance on our chart!
Reaching #1 for the first time since we began this countdown around a year and a half ago, the legendary Tanya Tucker climbs to the #1 spot with, what I believe to be the best song that she recorded in the 90’s, “Two Sparrows In A Hurricane”! Tanya received a ton of votes, but will the following be strong enough to keep her at the top for next week?
With the biggest jump of the week, Lorrie Morgan moves from #9 up to #2 after a strong showing with “Watch Me.” It has certainly been a long time since we’ve seen two women take the top spots! Marty Stuart pops in at #3 with his latest song on the poll, “Now That’s Country.” Perhaps one of his lesser remembered hits, but definitely one of his best in my book!
After dropping a few positions last week, Alabama’s “I’m In A Hurry (And Don’t Know Why)” has began to take a turn back towards the top of our countdown at #4, followed by last week’s top song, Kathy Mattea’s “Lonesome Standard Time.” With it’s final appearance on the poll, Alan Jackson’s “Love’s Got Hold On You” falls four slots to #6. While this song has been retired from the poll, it won’t be long before we see Alan once again! Also dropping a few positions is “Lost And Found” from Brooks & Dunn.
Along with Marty Stuart’s song mentioned above, two other new songs enter the fray this week. As a matter of fact, I find it incredibly hard to believe that George Strait’s “I Cross My Heart” comes in at #8. Then again, Strait’s fans haven’t exactly come out in droves here at BORN Country lately, so hopefully we see a change come next week! This week also sees the debuting John Michael Montgomery makes his mark with “Life’s A Dance” at #9! Will these new coming classics make a bigger impact next week? That’s up to your vote!
Retired From This Week’s Poll:
- Alan Jackson – Love’s Got A Hold On You
- Wynonna Judd – No One Else On Earth
- Tracy Lawrence – Somebody Paints The Wall
- Mark Collie – Even The Man In The Moon Is Crying
Added To This Week’s Poll:
- Garth Brooks – Somewhere Other Than The Night
- Reba McEntire – Take It Back
- Doug Stone – Too Busy Being In Love
- Little Texas – What Were You Thinkin’
- Vince Gill – Don’t Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away
*Readers may vote for 3 songs, EVERY HOUR, until the poll closes on Sunday night at 9PM ET. Results will be posted shortly after, with a new poll opening at 6AM ET on Monday morning. Songs will generally be retired after 6 weeks or due to a lack of fan interest. If a song remains at #1 for 3 weeks straight, it will be retired as a “CERTIFIED BORN Country” hit!
