Hank Williams, Jr. – It’s About Time
Bocephus is back with the follow-up to 2012’s Old School, New Rules. The first single, a duet with Eric Church covering the Neil Young/Waylon Jennings classic, “Are You Ready For The Country?,” premiered at the CMA Awards back in November. It’s About Time is the second release from the NASH ICON imprint of Big Machine Records, following last year’s Love Somebody from Reba. The new album features co-writes by Chris Janson (“Buy Me A Boat”), Terry McBride (“Play Something Country”) & of course, Hank, Jr., himself. *A vinyl LP release is slated for release in March.
Brothers Osborne – Pawn Shop
T.J. and John Osborne will be releasing their first full-length album on January 15th. I had the chance to see these guys open for Dwight Yoakam in late 2014. I hadn’t been a huge fan of “Rum” at the time and I may have dismissed them a little bit. “Stay A Little Longer” hit radio in 2015 and it began to catch my ear. I wasn’t completely sold on them yet, but after hearing a duet with Lee Ann Womack from Pawn Shop, titled “Loving Me Back,” let me just say it has changed my whole perspective on the Osbornes. Pawn Shop will absolutely be finding a home in my vinyl collection upon release!
Randy Rogers Band – Nothing Shines Like Neon
While not having yet broken through to the mainstream country audience, Randy Rogers is without question, one to keep an eye on. One of my Top 3 country albums of 2015 was a project Rogers put together with friend Wade Bowen, also of Texas Country roots. While Nothing Shines Like Neon isn’t quite of the same style as Hold My Beer, Vol. 1, Randy Rogers Band has been consistently putting out great country music for years.
Justin Moore – Outlaws Like Me (Vinyl LP)
Justin Moore’s 2011 sophomore release is being issued on vinyl LP. There doesn’t appear to be any new/bonus tracks, so if you aren’t a record collector, this may not be as appealing. Why his debut album is not also being released at this time is beyond me, but hopefully it will follow soon!
The Band Perry – The Band Perry (Vinyl LP)
The Perry siblings released their debut album in in October of 2010. The album tends to lean a bit too far on the pop-friendly side for my likings, however, “If I Die Young” and “All Your Life” are both fantastic tracks. Like Justin Moore above, this doesn’t appear to include anything that was not on the standard CD release.
Buddy Miller & Friends – Cayamo Sessions At Sea
Buddy Miller, co-host of the Buddy & Jim Radio Show on the Sirius XM Outlaw Country station, brings what looks to be a very cool project at the end of January. Cayamo Sessions At Sea includes duets with artists like Kacey Musgraves, Lee Ann Womack, Kris Kristofferson, Lucinda Williams and more!
Aubrie Sellers – New City Blues
Dianna Corcoran – In America
I’m not familiar with either of these two ladies, but after skimming the preview tracks on Amazon, I am very curious to learn more! Aubrie Sellers tends to lean more in the style of a Lee Ann Womack. From the research I’ve done, this appears to be her debut LP. Dianna Corcoran on the other hand, has found a following in her home country of Australia, having been active on the country music scene down under since 2003. Checkout the previews on Amazon or iTunes!
