Mark Chesnutt Battles A Cold And Performs A Rare Intimate Show On The East Bank Of Cleveland, OH.
This past Thursday evening, I found myself at an unfamiliar venue in Cleveland, OH, camera in hand, in anticipation of Mark Chesnutt’s classic country sound. I’ve been waiting for Chesnutt to find his way to the area for many years. Upon arrival at On Air Studio, the first thing that I noticed was that only approximately 50 chairs had been set up in front of the stage. Perhaps these were special seats and everyone else had to fill the rest of the building in standing room only? As we grew closer to showtime, I realized that I was actually in for a very special treat. It appeared that this show was booked for this room by design to make for an incredibly intimate show! Mark Chesnutt, his bandmates and 50 fans. How cool is that?! Though battling what seemed to be a bit of a cold, Mark Chesnutt made his way to the stage. Backed by his band, all on acoustics instruments (no drums tonight), the listening room at On Air Studio was instantly filled with the sounds of traditional honky-tonkin’ country music! The Beaumont, Texas native served up a sampling of his biggest 90’s hits with a few recent recordings from Tradition Lives sprinkled in. The set was on the shorter side, but with the treat of Mark’s stories on top of his not feeling in tip-top shape, that was to be expected. Mark did promise that he would return to the Cleveland area soon, so I’m sure the folks who attended this special show share my excitement in that announcement! I grew up on the music of Mark Chesnutt and it was an absolute honor to see him perform in such a small, intimate setting. These legendary artists who continue to make REAL country music, despite the lack of support from mainstream radio, deserve all of the credit we can give them. If they come through your town, I hope that you will buy your ticket, attend their show and let them know that we appreciate what they do.
