Mark my words. At this time next year, Alison Krauss will be even closer to becoming the highest awarded artist in Grammy history.
Today, Alison Krauss releases her latest studio album, Windy City. This may be a bold statement being that we are barely two months in, but I’d be willing to bet that Windy City winds up at the top of my Best Albums Of 2017 list at years end.
Alison Krauss brings her angelic voice to ten new incredible recordings, however, you’ve probably known a number of these songs for quite some time. In fact, the most recently written song that is included in this package is “River In The Rain,” written by Roger Miller in 1985. On the other end, “Poison Love” dates all of the way back to 1951!
While the majority of Windy City may sound like a bit of a departure from Alison’s Americana/Bluegrass sound that she has been known for along with Union Station over the past three decades, I welcome the change. Windy City is pop-country, in the same sense that Glen Campbell or Willie Nelson dabbled in throughout their careers. Speaking of which, “Gentle On My Mind” is probably the most recognizable song on the album, and what a recording it is!
There isn’t much that I can say about anything released by Alison Krauss that hasn’t already been said over and over for her entire career. If I had to choose one female vocalist to listen to for the remainder of time, I’d very likely choose Krauss. Windy City is a welcomed addition to that would be playlist and I highly suggest that you give it a shot yourself.
