Ty Herndon made his country music chart debut in 1995 with his first single, “What Mattered Most.” I’d come to be a big fan of Ty’s work throughout the second half of the 90’s when hits including “It Must Be Love,” “Steam,” “I Want My Goodbye Back” and more continued to find radio success, including two #1 hits.
20 years after his first record, Ty Herndon is set to release his 8th studio album titled House On Fire. With six of the twelve songs crediting Ty as a writer, this is very clearly a project that is very dear to Herndon.
“This album is 18-months in the making. The writing was intense at times, but we had a lot of fun throughout the process! This album is Ty Herndon to the very core of my heart and it is without a doubt the most honest and vulnerable album I’ve ever done. It is an album about heart and soul, with songs that everyone can relate to. My hope is that anyone who hears these songs will catch a small piece of his or her life through the music and my story.” – Ty Herndon
Prior to listening to House On Fire, I popped in my copy of This Is Ty Herndon: Greatest Hits. In comparison to his body of work between 1995 and 2002, this latest chapter is quite a departure from his country radio days. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. Sure, I love that guys like Mark Chesnutt and Tracy Byrd are putting out new albums with that classic honky-tonk sound from our favorite era of country music, but it can be pretty well assumed that those records won’t be making a big splash in the mainstream again anytime soon. In Ty’s case, I could easily see any of these twelve songs receiving radio play in comparison to the format today. “Blame It On The Mustang” and “If You” should be streamlined to radio as far as I am concerned.
Is House On Fire for everyone? Maybe not for those who are more closed minded to what country music “should” be, but for those willing to give it a chance, I believe that there is a lot to be enjoyed by Herndon’s newest offering. His vocals are stronger than ever and there is no denying that Ty put everything he had into this collection of songs.
Ty Herdon’s House On Fire is available to pre-order now at Amazon via CD or digital and will be released on November 11th, 2016. Ty is currently on tour with dates scheduled through January 2017. Follow Ty on Twitter: @TyHerndonCom and Instagram: @TyHerndonOfficial.
